STRONG High Seas workshop on socioeconomic analysis takes first steps to explore the value created, and potentially lost, due to changes in biodiversity in Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction. The workshop brought together twelve expert representatives from the CPPS member States Colombia, Ecuador, Chile and Peru gathered from 23-25 October 2019 in Barranquilla, Colombia.

New Policy Brief on Ecosystem-based Management of the Global Ocean

The STRONG High Seas project has published a new policy brief on the possible role of an internationally legally binding instrument for the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond the limits of national jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement) in developing and using regional governance frameworks for advancing the implementation of integrated ecosystem-based management (EBM).

STRONG HIGH SEAS – Capacity Building Workshop in Africa

Participants from the western coast of Africa met at the Lagoon Beach Hotel, Cape Town, for a two-day capacity building workshop on Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) on the 27th and 28th November 2019. The workshop was the first of two sessions planned for the Southeast Atlantic region, organized under the STRONG High Seas Project, by the International Ocean Institute – African Region, in collaboration with BirdLife International. STRONG High Seas Expert Workshop on Strengthening Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) in the Southeast Pacific

On 14-15 November 2019, STRONG High Seas project partner IDDRI organised a regional workshop to discuss how to strengthen monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS) in marine areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ) in the Southeast Pacific. This workshop was held at CPPS Headquarters, Guayaquil, Ecuador and builds on two international expert meeting previously held in Paris on technological tools (July 2018) and policy options (April 2019).
