STRONG High Seas project update presented at the 2022 CPPS General Assembly

Dr. Carole Durussel of IASS presented an update of the STRONG High Seas project at the 15th General Assembly of the Comisión Permanente del Pacífico Sur (CPPS; Permanent Commission for the South Pacific) on 18 January 2022.

Dr. Durussel highlighted the importance of areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ) and the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in these areas, outlining the scientific findings of the project for the Southeast Pacific region. The research results were co-developed with researchers and stakeholders from the region, fostered through collaboration between the STRONG High Seas project and the Secretariat of the CPPS, including its member States.

The meeting was in attendance by country members Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile as well as Panama, and observers. The General Assembly confirmed its commitment to the project and the participating countries expressed their willingness to continue to collaborate with the project.
