The STRONG High Seas project has published a new policy brief on the possible role of an internationally legally binding instrument for the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond the limits of national jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement) in developing and using regional governance frameworks for advancing the implementation of integrated ecosystem-based management (EBM).

On November 19th, the STRONG High Seas project held a online seminar on “Marine Genetic Resources: Building Capacities for Ocean Governance”.
Participants from the western coast of Africa met at the Lagoon Beach Hotel, Cape Town, for a two-day capacity building workshop on Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) on the 27th and 28th November 2019. The workshop was the first of two sessions planned for the Southeast Atlantic region, organized under the STRONG High Seas Project, by the International Ocean Institute – African Region, in collaboration with BirdLife International.
