PROG at Meeting of the Communities of Ocean Action “From Commitments to Action: Implementing SDG14,” 30-31 May 2019, Incheon

From 30 – 31 May, the PROG Marine Regions Forum project attended the UN Meeting of the Communities of Ocean Action (COAs) in Incheon, South Korea. The Meeting brought together the Voluntary Commitments (VCs) made at the 2017 UN Ocean Conference – a growing list that now includes more than 1,500 commitments for action to advance the implementation of SDG 14.

The PROG Marine Regions Forum, listed as Voluntary Commitment #OceanAction18439, hosted a table at the meeting to showcase the projects work and network with fellow Voluntary Commitment projects.

Throughout the meeting, Voluntary Commitments shared best practices and experiences among community members and interested stakeholders, providing a space to build partnerships and catalyse further pledges for ocean action. The meeting participants were welcomed by Ambassador Peter Thompson, UNSG’s Special Envoy for the Ocean, followed by sessions where participants shared their experiences in implementing Voluntary Commitments across the nine thematic areas of the COAs.

The meeting intended to contribute to the preparatory process in the lead-up to the 2020 United Nations Ocean Conference.
