The STRONG High Seas project released a policy brief entitled \u2018Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biodiversity in Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction: Options for Underpinning a Strong Global BBNJ Agreement through Regional and Sectoral Governance\u2019.<\/p>\n

The policy\u00a0brief introduces the value of and threats to the marine environment and biodiversity beyond national boundaries,\u00a0describes the current framework for ocean governance in ABNJ and provides a basic background on the upcoming BBNJ Intergovernmental Conference<\/a> (the first session will be held from 4 to 17 September 2018 in New York).\u00a0The policy brief highlights the importance of the interplay between the global and regional levels and identifies possible\u00a0options for underpinning a strong global BBNJ agreement through regional and sectoral governance.<\/p>\n
