The STRONG High Seas project has recently wrapped up its series of interactive virtual capacity development workshops in January 2022. The series, coordinated by the International Ocean Institute \u2013 South Africa (IOI-SA), aimed to provide the participants with tools and knowledge to share across national departments to enhance ocean governance in the region and implement the upcoming global agreement on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement) in their national context.<\/p>\n

All workshops prioritised making space for discussion and participation of the participants. The series took place over 5 sessions, and brought together over 100 participants from the Southeast Atlantic region with simultaneous translation in English and French, and covered the following topics:<\/p>\n
