STRONG High Seas Webinar – Marine Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction in the Southeast Pacific and Southeast Atlantic

On August 16, the STRONG High Seas project, together with the Abidjan Convention Secretariat and the Secretariat of the Permanent Commission for the South Pacific, held a webinar on “Marine Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction in the Southeast Pacific and Southeast Atlantic”.

The webinar focused on the status and role of marine biodiversity in ABNJ, including the threats and challenges it faces as well as the opportunities for its conservation and sustainable use, both globally and in the Southeast Pacific and Southeast Atlantic regions. It also provided the international context of marine science for the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in ABNJ and highlights advances in the identification of ecologically sensitive or vulnerable areas in ABNJ. The webinar is part of a series of events that the project organizes during the Intergovernmental Conference on an international legally binding instrument under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction in September 2018 in New York.
